Hello from brahms.blog

A place to write about self-hosting, share what I learn, and occasionally wander into running, music, and naval aviation.

Mountains and forest in Rocky Mountain National Park beneath a cloudy blue sky

Hello, and welcome!

I wanted a place to write down what I learn while running my own systems, and to share a little of the rest of my life along the way. That's what this blog is for.

Most of it will be about self-hosting. I like having control over my family's data and understanding how the things we depend on actually work. I also enjoy having somewhere to experiment, break things, and learn how to fix them. As I wrote in my About page, self-hosting is "leg day" for my tech skills.

For the technical posts, I want to write about the decisions as well as the setup: what I was trying to do, why I chose a particular approach, and what I learned when it didn't work. The commands and software will change/decay over time, but having a record of the reasoning should still be useful (including to "future me" trying to remember why I set something up that way!).

There will be other things here too. Running, classical music, and naval aviation take up a fair amount of my attention, so they'll find their way into this space. This is a personal blog, and I want to leave room for things that I enjoy.

This site itself is self-hosted. Keeping a little piece of the internet that I can look after myself feels worth the effort.

If you'd like to know more about me, the About page is a good place to start. Thanks for stopping by!
